Top Ten Ways You Can Support Cottey and Our Incredible Students.
1. Get to know Cottey through a virtual tour. Visit the Cottey College website, cottey.edu, to take an informative online tour. Don’t forget to check out the interviews with the students and faculty. Their enthusiasm is contagious and will make you proud of the impact you are making upon the lives of these women.
2. Seeing is believing. Take an actual trip to Cottey. In addition to P.E.O. Visit Day (October 5) you can visit Cottey any time. Taking a tour with a Golden Key guide as well as enjoying a wonderful meal in Raney Dining Hall are musts. When you can schedule a tour ahead of time, you will be treated like a VIP as you tour your school. Vacation College, held in late May, is another way to experience the school as you explore fun learning opportunities. Check out more information at these links: cottey.edu/peo/grow and cottey.edu/peo/campus-tours.
3. Refer a student to Cottey. Simply fill out the referral form at cottey.edu/referstudent and Cottey will do the rest. Thanks to generous alumni donations, prospective students and their guests traveling over 100 miles may qualify for complimentary local lodging for one night. A student who visits Cottey and then attends can receive up to a $10,000 renewable scholarship for every year of attendance. Ninety percent of the current Cottey students visited the school before they made the decision to enroll at Cottey.
4. Share Cottey with your P.E.O. Chapter. Information for terrific chapter programs can be found on the Cottey College website – cottey.edu/peo. In addition, visit the International P.E.O. website and click on “Educational Support” and then “Cottey College” to check out resources. Finally, you can always contact one of the Kansas Cottey College Scholarship committee members for specific information.
5. Host a student meet and greet and/or take students with you to visit Cottey. It is never too early to start this process. Students begin to think about college as early as freshmen and sophomores. Go to cottey.edu/visit for information.
6. Adopt the Kansas Suite for a month. This is easy to do on our Sign-Up Genius page. For information on this process, refer to the article in the August Star Points or simply click on this link where you will find the Sign-Up Genius link as well as discover suggestions for adoption gifts.
7. Adopt a Kansas Cottey student for three months. Once again, this is done on the SignUp Genius page and once again you can click here to find the SignUp Genius link. If you have any questions about Kansas adoptions, contact Meg Carte at megcarte1@gmail.com or kscpeocotteyadopt@gmail.com for help. Go to cottey.edu/support-your-student for giving ideas.
8. Give to Cottey College either as a chapter, individually, or both. The portion of our regular dues designated for Cottey goes primarily to the maintenance and upkeep of the college. Money given beyond through project giving goes to grants, loans, and special programs for women at Cottey. Individual donations are tax deductible. If you would like to give, go to peointernational.org and then Make a Gift.
9. Connect directly with Cottey for your giving. Consider giving directly to Cottey College through their website. The “Give” section of the website (cottey.edu/give) offers a selection of specific funds and projects. Consider donating to one of these in honor of a Golden Girl or a member of Chapter Eternal. There are a variety of options here.
10. Donate to our state Kansas Cottey College Scholarship. This is a Kansas State Chapter project and money goes directly to providing scholarships to Kansas women attending Cottey. Students may reapply every year they attend Cottey. The number of scholarships awarded and at what amount depends on how much is given to the scholarship fund from year to year. Last year the KCCS committee awarded 16 scholarships. If you know a Kansas woman who is interested in this scholarship she MUST be accepted to Cottey before it is available to her. That is one reason why introducing the Cottey experience early is so important. Scholarships applications will be accepted starting November 1 and are due February 1.
